Simply Mahjong
My wife and I decided to reimagine what a modern set of Mahjong tiles would look like. We worked on creating a set of tiles that could be used in all variations of the game from American, HK, TW, Richi, Vietnamese, and Malaysian styles of play.
We started this project as a way to feel more connected with our heritage and we both learned the basics of the game from our grandparents. Unfortunately, learning how to score still eludes us! We hope to be able to produce the set one day.
Computational Design Exercise - Label Printer
To learn computational design, I designed a basic stand for a shipping label printer that had been sitting on the floor. I followed tutorials, learning about what each parameter changes in Grasshopper, consulted with experts on Reddit, and banged my head against a wall until I finally achieved a semblance of a Voronoi lattice structure that was parametrically generated.
It was a humbling experience for someone who’s very confident in my modeling abilities in Solidworks but can see the limits of the software’s capabilities.
