Lightning Dock

Client Brief:
Create a dock for the iPhone 5 that is compatible with all protective cases in the Apple store.

Design Solution:
This product was targeted toward Apple’s retail stores. As such, we did a lot of research on the existing Lightning docks on the market and determined that almost all of them were incompatible with protective cases that had a shroud around the phone’s Lightning connector.

After several rounds of sketches and ideation, I came up with the idea of the floating platform. We used a 3d printer to prototype the initial design and verified that it worked.

The final design is compatible with virtually all protective cases for the iPhone 5 and even works with most iPhone 6 products.
